IN THE NEWS ~ SWINDON COLLEGE, JULY 2010: -
Local accountancy firm, Ekins & Co, have taken on two Swindon College apprentices; Renata Selley and Gemma Munson. In October 2007 Renata, aged 20, started her Level 2 Accountancy Apprenticeship and by December 2009 she had completed Level 3. Renata is now studying for the AAT Level 4 Diploma at Swindon College.
Renata said: “After school I started studying for A levels, but soon realised that they weren’t for me so when I was offered a position at Ekins & Co and the chance to train as an accountant through the apprenticeship programme I knew that it was the right choice for me. I have enjoyed being an apprentice as I have learnt ‘on the job’ and I was treated as an adult.”

Zoe Stirk, Accountant, who works alongside Renata at Ekins and Co said: “We were pleased to support Renata through the Apprenticeship programme. It’s worked out well for both of us and Renata's current course is the final step to achieving full Accounting Technician Status.

"We found that the one day a week accountancy course at the College boosted Renata’s knowledge, which really helped her understand her work for our clients.”

“I would definitely recommend the apprenticeship programme at Swindon College to any business. It’s worked out so well that this year we have taken on another apprentice and she has now completed Level 2 programme and will be starting her Level 3 in September.”
